Olympia Stadium, 1927-1979

Olympia Stadium

Location: Detroit, Michigan
Dates: November 22, 1927-December 15, 1979
Total games:
Total goals:

Olympia Stadium was the home of the Detroit Cougars/Falcons/Red Wings from 1927, when the team moved from the Border Cities Arena in Windsor, until partway through the 1979/80 season when they moved to Joe Louis Arena.

Unsurprisingly, the highest scorer at Olympia is Gordie Howe, with 430. This is actually the highest number of goals by any player at any single arena. No one else has scored as many as 400 anywhere else. While Alex Delvecchio’s 243 would be enough to top the list in many other arenas, Howe has almost twice as many.

In the other Original Six arenas, the top visiting scorer is always Howe. For Olympia, the highest scoring player who never played for Detroit is Bobby Hull, with 47.
